Jipyong Publishes ‘JIPYONG SUSTAINABILITY REPORT 2025’

2026.10.28

Jipyong has published the ‘JIPYONG SUSTAINABILITY REPORT 2025.’

Since becoming the first Korean law firm to publish a sustainability report in 2019, Jipyong has transparently reported each year on its efforts and key achievements in integrating social value into its management practices while gathering a wide range of feedback.  The 2025 report also provides a structured overview of the firm’s activities throughout the year, based on domestic and international criteria for assessing sustainability management.

Organized into four parts, the report highlights Jipyong’s efforts to enhance the well-being of its members and create a positive work environment.  It also presents the firm’s key activities and achievements in supporting clients’ sustainability efforts through its legal services.  In addition, it features practical examples of Jipyong’s efforts to create social value, including public interest litigation and support for vulnerable members of society.

To proactively address emerging challenges facing businesses, including the climate crisis, artificial intelligence, occupational safety, and evolving global regulations, Jipyong is strengthening its capabilities by establishing specialized units, including the Global Risk Management & Strategy Center, Climate & Energy Center, AI & Bio-Healthcare Center, and Safety & Risk Management Consulting Center.  Jipyong also supports clients’ sustainability efforts, with services covering areas such as compliance with evolving global regulations on human rights and environmental issues, the establishment of ESG management systems, the implementation of responsible AI governance, and the strengthening of corporate compliance and ethical business practices.

In addition, Jipyong strives to create social value through public interest litigation, support for vulnerable members of society, advocacy for legal and institutional reform, and collaboration with public interest law organizations.  In 2025, Jipyong members dedicated a total of 14,772 hours to public interest activities, with 86.67% of the firm’s lawyers contributing their professional expertise to these activities.  The annual average time devoted to public interest legal work was 35.88 hours per lawyer, or 41.40 hours per participating lawyer.

The report places particular emphasis on the “First Floor for All” (“Living with the First Floor”) litigation, which resulted in the first Supreme Court en banc decision to recognize the right of access for persons with disabilities as a fundamental constitutional right.  In collaboration with Duroo, a public interest law organization, Jipyong represented wheelchair users with physical disabilities and caregivers using strollers in public interest litigation.  In this landmark decision, the Supreme Court recognized the right of access for persons with disabilities as a fundamental constitutional right and held the State liable in damages for its prolonged failure to amend an unlawful enforcement decree.  The decision marked the first time a claim for state compensation was upheld on the basis of a failure to amend defective administrative legislation, and is regarded as an important legal precedent for future cases involving similar legislative gaps.  The report also features a Q&A interview with Sung Taek LIM, Managing Partner of Jipyong, and Sun Woo NOH, Attorney at Jipyong, both of whom led the litigation.  The interview further underscores the significance of the ruling and Jipyong's commitment to public interest work.

Furthermore, the report includes various other examples that demonstrate Jipyong’s continued efforts to advance sustainability and fulfill its social responsibility.
