Sung Kook KANG

Mr. Sung Kook Kang completed his training at the Judicial Research and Training Institute in 1991 and served as a judge advocate in the army. Since he joined the bench in 1994, he served as a judge of district court and Seoul High Court, and a law clerk of the Supreme Court. After he served as a presiding judge of the Seoul Central District Court and the Seoul Northern District Court, he retired from the bench and joined Jipyong in March 2015.

In July 2020, he was appointed as the Deputy Minister of Legal Affairs Bureau of the Ministry of Justice and then appointed as the Vice Minister of Justice. From July 2020 to May 2022, he handled an array of matters related to legal affairs and prosecution service, such as government legislation, prosecution service, immigration service, correctional service, crime prevention policies, etc. and came back to JIPYONG in July 2022.

During his 21 years of service as a judge, Mr. Kang handled various cases covering a wide range of areas including civil, criminal, corporate (commercial), finance, family affairs and administrative applications as a judge of Gwangju District Court, Uijeongbu District Court, Seoul Central District Court, Seoul Northern District Court, Seoul High Court, the Supreme Court, and others.

As a presiding judge, Mr. Kang adjudicated civil cases in the areas of finance, damage compensation, real estate, medical malpractice, environment, and international trade. He also handled various cases as a presiding judge responsible for the examination of warrant, a single judge in criminal cases, a presiding judge of the first instance collegiate division, and a presiding judge in appeal cases, etc. 

Mr. Kang has also served as professor at the Judicial Research and Training Institute and taught the classes of 2008, 2009 and 2010. All of his students have become judges, prosecutors, and attorneys contributing to the society. In addition, Mr. Kang has acquired a master’s degree in competition law and finished doctoral coursework in the Commercial Code.
