Jipyong Named “Innovative Law Firm of the Year” at the 2025 Korea Best Law Firms & Lawyers Awards; Jinhee KIM and Sun Kuk KIM Honored “Best Lawyers of the Year”

Jipyong was named the “Innovative Law Firm of the Year” at the 2025 Korea Best Law Firms & Lawyers Awards, hosted by Hankyung Business on November 28.  In addition, Jinhee KIM, the Head of Jipyong's Global Practice Group, was named a “Best Lawyer of the Year” in International Arbitration & Cross-Border Disputes and Sun Kuk KIM was selected as a “Best Lawyer of the Year” in Criminal Defense and Investigations. 
 
Now in its 16th year, the Best Law Firms & Lawyers Awards, co-hosted by Hankyung Business and the Korean In-house Counsel Association, recognizes law firms and lawyers who have demonstrated the most outstanding performance during the year. 
 
Jipyong demonstrated exceptional performance in both litigation and advisory services this year. In the fair trade sector, Jipyong successfully represented Kakao Mobility in an administrative lawsuit seeking revocation of the penalty surcharge for alleged abuse of market dominance related to the ‘dispatch algorithm’, obtaining a decision that revoked all penalties imposed by the Korea Fair Trade Commission.  In the capital markets sector, Jipyong proved its overseas IPO advisory capabilities by advising Cuckoo Homesys’s Malaysian subsidiary, Cuckoo International, on its successful listing on the local stock exchange.  The firm was also awarded the “Innovative Law Firm of the Year” in recognition of its proactive response to major regulatory changes, including the expansion of practice-specific centers, the strengthening of cross-practice collaboration, and its ability to respond swiftly to evolving client needs. 
 
The awards also celebrated individual excellence, with Foreign Attorney Jinhee KIM named the Best Lawyer in International Disputes & Arbitration.  As Head of the firm’s Global Practice Group and Global Disputes Team, her reputation for excellence was demonstrated this year when she solely represented a Korean construction company in a successful ICC construction arbitration against a Nicaraguan subcontractor.  She also took the lead in a critical SIAC arbitration case on behalf of a Korean semiconductor technology company against a Chinese company, further highlighting her depth of expertise in the field. 
 
Attorney Sun Kuk KIM, a former police officer turned attorney, was named a Best Lawyer in the Criminal Defense & Investigations.  He was lauded for his exceptional ability to analyze legal principles from a judicial perspective - a skill honed during his tenure as a Law Clerk at the Seoul Central District Court’s Civil Division and the Seoul High Court’s Criminal Division.  He has been recognized for his versatile capabilities in the field of criminal defense, having handled a wide array of cases involving occupational embezzlement and breach of trust, violations of stock trading-related laws, trade secret leaks, defense industry matters, internal investigations, and professional negligence resulting in death or injury in connection with mass-casualty incidents.
