JIPYONG-DUROO Hold a “Ceremony for Support of Public Service Activities for Human Rights, Pro Bono, and Research in the Era of COVID-19”

At 2:00 p.m., November 30, JIPYONG and DUROO held a ceremony for the “Project for Support of Public Service Activities for Human Rights, Pro Bono, and Research in the Era of COVID-19”, which was planned to facilitate activities to protect the rights and interests of the marginalized in society and promote common good.

The ceremony was held online due to the level 2 social distancing restrictions against the pandemic. During the event, JIPYONG’s partner Young Soo KIM, the head of the public service committee, explained the purpose of the support project following the keynote speech given by JIPYONG’s managing partner Ji Hyung KIM. After then, the organizations selected for the support project introduced their projects.

Until November 4, JIPYONG and DUROO received applications from organizations engaging in newly emerged human rights problems during the COVID-19 outbreak and human rights issues related to the prevention and control of infectious diseases for the “Project for Support of Public Service Activities for Human Rights, Pro Bono, and Research in the Era of COVID-19” in three categories: public service activities for human rights, pro bono, and research. The nine organizations selected by the evaluation committee will receive the total of KRW 51 million, each of which will receive KRW 3 million to 10 million considering the project volume and the applied amount. They will contribute to public service activities for human rights during the COVID-19 crisis.

“Our criteria for selection included how will the project contribute to public good, human right, and society, the capabilities of the applicants and the feasibility of the project, the urgency of funding, and the adequacy and clearness of the plan to use the contributions, etc. I hope that those projects could contribute to the measures to address human rights issues that have come into light during the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Sung Taek LIM, JIPYONG’s Managing Partner who held the support project.

JIPYONG is planning to hold a project results presentation to complete this project in August 2021.
