Jipyong Participates in Seoul ADR Festival 2025, Co-hosts “Global Dispute Strategy & Negotiation Workshop for SMEs” with SIMC and “Navigating U.S. Trade and Investment Policies and Dispute Risks for Korean Businesses” with Young ITA, KCAB Next, and NYIAC

On October 28, Jipyong and the Singapore International Mediation Centre (SIMC) co-hosted the “Global Dispute Strategy & Negotiation Workshop for SMEs” at Jipyong headquarters in Seoul.  The workshop was designed to address the challenges faced by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with limited capacity for international dispute resolution, focusing on practical strategies and solutions to support Korean companies’ overseas expansion. 
 
The workshop began with opening remarks from Jipyong’s Managing Partner, Gee Hong KIM.  This was followed by a presentation on “International Dispute Strategy for SMEs” by Jinhee KIM, Senior Foreign Attorney and Head of Jipyong’s Global Disputes Team.  She explained that in international disputes, prevention and control are more important than reactive measures, emphasizing the importance of negotiating favorable governing law, jurisdiction, and dispute resolution mechanisms from the outset.  Subsequently, SIMC CEO Wee Meng Chuan and Jinhee KIM led a mock international mediation session in which participants engaged in negotiations based on a pre-set scenario and actively took part in the mediation process. 
 
The workshop was part of Seoul ADR Festival 2025 (SAF), held from October 27 to 31.  As a sponsor of the welcome reception, Jipyong delivered opening remarks at the festival’s official opening ceremony and hosted a series of workshops, networking events, and discussions. 
 
On October 29, the festival’s main event, the Asia-Pacific ADR Conference, featured a session on “Arbitration through the Eyes of the Users: What Works and What Doesn’t,” which was co-moderated by Jinhee KIM.  On October 30, Jipyong hosted a networking and discussion event at its headquarters with Young ITA, KCAB Next, and NYIAC on the theme of “Navigating U.S. Trade and Investment Policies and Dispute Risks for Korean Businesses.”  The event was chaired by Jinhee KIM, with panelists including Somin K. JUN, Senior Foreign Attorney at Jipyong; Arie Eernisse, a Senior Foreign Attorney at international arbitration-specialized law firm Peter & Kim; Mevelyn Ong, an attorney at Sidley Austin LLP; Don JEON, a Senior Foreign Attorney at Kim & Chang; and Lexi Tamakatsu, an attorney at Mori Hamada & Matsumoto.  The discussion examined shifts in U.S. trade and investment policies and strategies for responding to the resulting dispute risks from the perspective of counsel practicing in different jurisdictions. 
 
Jinhee KIM stated, “We hope this event provided an opportunity for Korean companies to experience various negotiation procedures and dispute resolution methods in international disputes and to explore practical solutions for more effectively managing and resolving legal risks in complex cross-border transactions.”
